Viscous Damper
Viscous damper is a device that attenuates the earthquake energy of the structure. It increases the damping ratio of the structure by up to 50%, minimizes the stress and displacement acting on the structural members, and can be applied at low cost for seismic reinforcement of new structures and improvement of seismic performance of existing structures. In other words, the viscous damper is a system that provides maximum protection to structures from the earthquake and improves the value of structures.
1. Features
• The damping force added to the structure as a result of viscous damper installation reduces the acceleration and displacement of the member to prevent damage to the structure.
• Ease of analyses is increased with general commercial programs, and optimal design can be achieved which reduces construction costs of structures.
• Viscous damper is compact, easy to install, and can be designed economically with high damping ratio.
• Traffic control is unnecessary when reinforcing existing bridges. Seismic performance is ensured by using existing bridge bearings as they are.
• The viscous damper has low temperature dependency and does not transmit temperature stress to the lower pier. Even after the earthquake, it can be used continuously without extra external power because there is no change in performance
2. Shape
• A cylinder filled with liquid silicone and a piston that distributes the liquid silicone into two different chambers are the main components
• Spherical hinge system is adopted at both ends to ensure perfect linearity of cylinder and piston
